Every time we've made it easier to write software, we've ended up writing exponentially more of it. When high-level languages replaced assembly, programmers didn't write less code - they wrote orders of magnitude more, tackling problems that would have been economically impossible before. When frameworks abstracted away the plumbing, we didn't reduce our output - we built more ambitious applications. When cloud platforms eliminated infrastructure management, we didn't scale back - we spun up services for use cases that never would have justified a server room.
2020 has to be the most documented year of your life. note-taking, reading and word collection were your bread and butter. you were almost obsessed with documenting life. it's borderline pathological, and might be the reason you are stressed - always striving to make each day stand out in your journals. you also read about a dozen books and learned to paint in different mediums (watercolor, acrylic and gouache) as well as cooked a few dishes this year. a lot of "productive" hobbies were inculcated and maintained. some fond memories from the year off the top of my head: - the two meetings with m on new years and a couple of days later - impromptu flying to bangalore on leap day (mazel tov) - m holding my arm the first time - walking back from mango in the rain, with m in her yellow dress - christmas secret santa exchange with "euro trip" gang and gullu's perfect gifts - the first time you had bruschetta with m - date nights in the APR balcony - bitching about aakash on text, while he drove us to coorg - the amazing sex you had in manipal after being drunk and high - when m ordered for you apsara (anjalee est 1975) ice cream in pune - pour painting all day with m in the balcony - vibing with each other and dancing like it's nobody's business on anjuna beach at night. only to lose your keys and rejoice at finding them again - the comfy bus rides with m, to and from manipal - being slightly blazed i think you really need to calm down and take life less seriously. the amount you worry about in life and not enjoy and live in the moment is extremely concerning. life's not a competition. you don't have to prove a point. in the end, all that will remain are the times you were happy and regrets. minimize the latter. treat yourself man, srajan
