As members of the hippie movement grew older and moderated their lives and their views, and especially after US involvement in the Vietnam War ended in the mid-1970s, the counterculture was largely absorbed by the mainstream, leaving a lasting impact on philosophy, morality, music, art, alternative health and diet, lifestyle and fashion.
Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant hippie cultural climate of the time
People are Straight Edge for a range of reasons, but most of us do not have any desire to get intoxicated, some have never touched psychoactive substances, etc. - if you're currently an addict with chronic cravings, be realistic about how our experience might differ from yours

psychedelics are very powerful. Anyone who uses them is taking a significant risk of causing some permanent changes to their mind, and the outcome might not always be positive. Using them recreationally is just careless. There may be an argument for sacramental or therapeutic use, but only when appropriate precautions are taken.

Psychosis is when the person has no drug left in their system but is experiencing personality changes, memory problems, aural hallucinations, thought and action loops, paranoia and irrational behaviour. It does NOT mean the drug is still working.
